My name is Giulia Sciutto. I live and work in Daphne, Alabama, USA. I was born and raised in Genoa, Italy, and have lived in the United States for more than 20 years. During one of my recent visits to Italy, I saw for the first time a piece of jewelry made with aluminum wire, and I was moonstruck. Back in the States, I bought a roll of aluminum wire, some pliers, and I began to experiment making my first jewelry pieces. For me, playing with wire is like drifting into a peaceful place full of unexpected, pleasant, and endless surprises. Making jewelry is pure passion and joy. I wondered where this passion that exploded out of the blue could have come from, and I found out. My grandfather, Giulio, (“the masculine version of my name!), who died before I was born, was a well-known creative and passionate silversmith. He had to sell all of his equipment and materials during War World II, due to illness and the hard times. I call my jewelry Happy Bee because of the joy it gives me to make it, and because I am as busy as a bee making all of it.
my creations
I make hand-crafted contemporary, modern, unique, organic jewelry. Each piece is unique. They may be sisters, but never twins. Working with my hands allows the discovery of endless different shapes to aluminum and copper wire. They range from youthful, to classy, to avant-garde. I love aluminum wire because it is lightweight and pliable. Aluminum jewelry pieces are nearly weightless and adapt to the shape of your body with the gentle pressure of your hands. The copper gives an earthy color and organic feeling. With the wire, I incorporate semiprecious stones, crystals, glass and wood. Fabric and vegan leather are used for the laces.
